Why do some health care professionals hide their knowledge? I am a Nuclear Medicine Technology major. Up on our clinical rotation with my classmates, we were assigned to work with experienced technologists at different hospitals. Unfortunately, we are passing through an experience that sufferes our interest to learn. The main reason is some of the technologists do not want to share what they know. All of us are wondering why. I also do not know why they are feeling insecured! Personally, I belive Hospitals are one of the educational institutions and their health care professionals also have certain responsibility to train college students. Do you think it is fair to waste 32hrs per week in hospitals for nothing? What is the best strategy to convince this adages to share what they know?

A question for Health Care professionals ONLY please? For several months now, I have experienced severe cold and shivers when I get sleepy. It happens quite suddenly. I am planning to visit my doctor, but for the mean time I am curious what you think might be the cause of this.

I have a question for health care professionals who work in the OR ? I had surgery a while back, and they put the IV in the vein in my hand. Now that vein pops out of my hand and looks completely knotted and bulged out. It also feels hard when I touch it. Does anybody have any idea what happened to the vein in my hand? I will be seeing a doctor as well.
Do you think that smokers are discriminated by health care professionals? Yeah, but I don't see them giving as much grief to alcholics, the obese, drug addicts, AIDs patients - who spread the disease. I really think smokers get an unfair shake in the world. It's a disease. Which means that they need help, not discouragement! By the way, I've never smoked a cigarette EVER!

Health care professionals...how long did it take you to become cynical? I know it's aweful but how long did it take you to become really cynical of people? For health care professionals - Your thoughts on HR 676? I'm curious to find out the positions of any health care professionals out there on HR 676 - the United States National Health Insurance act, sponsored by Rep. John Conyers Jr. The idea of having national health care for everyone is certainly one that is long overdue to be implemented in America. Just the fact that so many people are uninsured, under insured, or get screwed over by their insurance companies is awful. Thoughts on this?
What do you think is the cause of runaway health care cost? Health Care professionals say it is the high cost of malpractice insurance? Health care professionals please respond. My TB skin test was positive. Do I risk taking the meds? After 20 years as a Respiratory Therapist, and every year, testing went well This time the test was possitive! I have a weak immune system from a long term chemical exposure at the hospital years ago. The occupational health Doc. says I must go on antibiotic therapy for 6 months, this med is very toxic to the liver most of the time patients develop nonspecific hepetitsis from it and I am not to even take tylonol while taking the drug. The drug is meant to incapsulate the TB particals in my lung, to prevent it from becoming an active form of TB. At this point it is only an exposure. After the +skin test I found that over 1/2 of my department tested positive years ago and never did the treatment, just a lung x-ray yearly. I know I am highly suseptable to everything and 20 times more likely to develop cancer than others because of immunities and immuture T cells. I am very concerned about this and would like input. Web sites welcome. Anything! What would you do?
Why are health care workers so opposed to the government increasing their numbers? In California the powerful Health Care Professionals Association (nurses) has endorsed a socialized medicine package making its way through our left minded legislation and probably to be vetoed by Arnold. They oppose Arnold's demand that State Universities and Colleges increase their programs to produce more health care professionals. People want jobs, these jobs pay good, and the schools that educate people to be nurses and health care workers are flooded and booked up. Their wages go up, up and up. A good solution is to increase the supply of these working professionals. Why should we let them stop us from increasing their numbers?
how can health care professionals promote an anti discriminatory practice?? equality, diversity and rights in health care setting
Health care professionals! I have a question about post op care...? Hi First of all is 5 hours a long time under anesthetic for day surgery? Second, if a person reacts badly to the drugs used in the OR and they had to use adrenlaine to counter act allergic shock PLUS there was a lot of trauma done to the throat and nasal cavity because they couldn't get the breathing tube in properly. the patient has a bleeder in their nasal cavity and raw throat my question is shouldn't that person be kept overnight for observation for their safety AND if not keep them shouldn't you give them some post op orders to say this is what you should look for? I mean as soon as my BP and O2 reached the magic number it was in a wheel chair and out the door help me in the car and bub bye! We are all anonymous here and I am not looking to sure anybody but I am just greatly disillusioned by these health care professionals. They seemed to want me out of the recovery so they didn't have to take responsibility - so no one could "pin" anything on them the big thing is that I am detoxing those drugs and anesthetic and as they come out of my system I have been reacting to them and sometimes it is hard to breathe. I haven't been sleeping except to sit up and the first couple of nights when I did sleep I woke up soaked with sweat. I think that is negligent I like to think that people care more about their patient than themselves and whether they are going to get in trouble or not but it didn't seem that way - I might go to the emergency to get checked out
Does anyone know about any website where you can find health care professionals periodicals.? I am a new nursing student, and I have to produce an abstract using a periodical. I am not too sure where to start.
This is for health care professionals only. Can you help me? My skin gets these really dry patches (rashes) all over my body like 7-9 months a year and I don't know why. They itch and bump up, even when I only scratch a little bit. I have to apply lotion several times a day to try and soothe myself, but it doesn't really help much. I try to use unscented lotions and creams as well. This has been going on since I was 14 years old and now I'm 22. Can you give me some tips on how to at least increase the outbreaks by like 20 or 30 percent? I'd really appreciate this.
To all health care professionals - i need help!? I'm doing a paper for my anatomy & physiology class on meningitis. One thing i have to explain is the physiological, anatomical, or histological process leading to the disorder. I just don't really understand WHAT these processes are, exactly, and how I would explain them... I only need to choose one of the three, and I don't know which one to choose. I'm thinking anatomical might be the easiest, but I'm not sure if I can really write a whole paragraph on it. Help please!? best answer gets all the points =]

How important is it to you that your health care professional undertakes continuing professional development? In the UK the majority of health care professionals (including Drs, nurses, physiotherapists, paramedics) now have to show that they continue to update their skills and knowledge on a regular basis. It's not just enough for them to go on courses they have to reflect on what they have learned and show what impact this learning has had on their professional practise. Often they have to do this in addition to their full-time jobs. Do you think this is fair or should they be allowed time to develop their knowledge and skills during their working day?
How do I find health care physicians by ethnicity? I am wondering if the is a place that I can find dr.s and other health care professionals that are african american. I went to a white dermatologist to treat my acne and after a very brief appt he gave me medication that hasn't worked and it has been over a month. I am hoping to find someone that has more knowledge on african american skin. Any ideas?
Obama Health Care: Students/Health Professionals? As a Pre-PA student who is looking to eventually work in the medical field, I've got a few questions for people training to be heath professionals and current health professionals. 1.) How does Obama's plan for nationlized health care affect you as a health professional or health profession student? 2.) Will you still continue your education/career if drastic salary cuts were made to your job to better marginalize the cost of health care? 3.) Do you feel that with the growing number of "Dr." titles (DNPs, DPTs, etc) enable health professionals to ask for a higher salary? How would they react under a government-reimbursment style medical system when they're salaries are regulated and have a glass ceiling? 4.) Do you feel frustrated or irritated when others accuse medical professionals of greed simply because they draw a large salary for an important and difficult job? I'm interested to hear how others feel about these issues!

What would the impact of building 200 new colleges for health care professionals be? What if a candidate for president said we're going to build 200 new medical schools in the United States to educate more doctors, nurses and aids for our health care system. It would cost about 3% of the national health care budget including funds set aside to operate the schools permanently into the future without the need for more taxes. Do you think our government could put 3% of the health care budget into increasing the supply of doctors and nurses? Consider that the health care budget increases by more then 5% every year so a lowly 3% should be feasible right? Namesaev? - In California alone they turned away 15,000 nursing school applicants in 2007. If that is relfective of the nation it means 150,000 people were interested in becomming nurses that can not get into school. I don't know where you guys live but nursing shortages exist here - they get paid top dollar and get signing bonuses like $5k and $10k because the hospitals can't get enough of them.
Health Care Professionals ONLY? I don't have any friends and I don't want any friends. Is there something wrong with that? The only problem I have, is that it's not how EVERYONE ELSE lives their lives. But I don't live like everyone else, and I don't think like everyone else. I don't require the emotional or social support that comes through friends. I'm not insane or anything, I DO care for some of those who are close to me, but I don't socialize on a regular basis. It's just not one of my top priorities in life.
To Any Health Care Professionals: My husband is on dialysis treatments.? I do have a fear that one day I will become the sole provider for our house-hold due to his illness progressing. Currently, he goes to dialysis treatments three times a week, he is attending school a few times per week to finish up his masters' and as I stated earlier at the present he works full time in a supervisory position. Now that all sounds good but listen, on certain days of the week at leat two he cuts his dialysis time short at least an hour so that he can get to class, he will be finished with school in december. I am worried that he is pushing himself to hard. What can I do now, to be prepared to care for both us on just my income tell me how to prepare financially to handle thi

Only Health Care Professionals: What if a nurse catches herpes from a patient?!? I had two ICU patients with herpes. For one patient, it was herpes in lungs. For the second one, the only info I knew was the patient had it on her lips. I assume it was Herpes type I. Yesterday, the second patient had hypertensive crisis in which I was modeled by a much more experienced critical care RN to show compassion and touch, holding her hand to try to calm her. She was a pretty A&O patient who had a ETT because she was unable to wean. Because I was a new ICU nurse, I decided to summon help of another very experienced ICU nurse who released her soft bilateral upper restraints to try to ease the patient's anxiety. Well, I wouldn't have done that exactly...but that is how it went. During the time I was very close by to the patient, patting her back and providing her therapeutic touch as a means of trying to calm her after 1 mg dose of lorazepam/Ativan IV was unsuccessful... I didn't notice the patient bring her hand up to my lips and touch it. Whenever a patient has touched me on my face (by accident or what not), I usually did run to the bathroom and quickly wash my face with soap and water. However, yesterday was a day when I was involved in a code blue for 2 hrs then the HTNsive crisis with my own pt for 1.5 hrs or so... So I was so behind on charting and didn't even think about protecting myself... I've never had herpes and there is no reason for me to have herpes. I came home and after dinner after about 15 hrs or so, I noticed very miniscule red blistery things on my right upper lip. I am paranoid to death. Like I said, I never had herpes before. What should I do. Anything I can do right now (it's early am Monday~~ way before any doctors office is open ). Oh yea, both patients were on IV acyclovir. BTW, I looked in the mirror and said "Fuck!" because I knew it to appear as vesicles, which means viral! Shit! I don't know what to do! I don't care if millions of people have it because I surely never had it and never want it! I looked up HSV incubation time. It's 2 days minimum? I've worked with these same pts for 3 NZ in a row and it was third NZ for me. I really learned something. Always be vigilant of pt touching generally private areas like face! Always practicing standard precautions, because I had, without gloves patted her back and held her hands.. Yikes. I then *think* I washed my hands, but who knows. It was a crazy night.
Vegans, naturepaths, alternaitve health care professionals UNITE!? The US FDA is at it again. They have been notorious for decades for their biased attacks and uneven handling of natural, non-drug/surgery/radiation based health options. This time, though, they are playing for keeps. The goal is simple: through a "Guidance" about the regulation of "CAM" (which they conveniently define as "Complementary and Alternative MEDICINE" the FDA hopes to serve the interests of Big Pharma by eliminating all CAM practices and products. ALL of them. Even vitamins will be illegal! Here is what you need to do NOW if you value your freedom: 1. Click on the link below and add your name to the letter. When you click "Send" it will be electronically delivered to the FDA docket site and posted. 2. Write a brief note and including this link , http://tinyurl.com/2u7ghc , and mail it to every one you can. In your email please. If you don't think this is serious read this http://www.healthfreedomusa.org/index.php?page_id=157 only one of you has a brain? wow. why am I not shocked by this?

Libs, are doctors, nurses, technicians, and other health care professionals excited to become govt employees? Will the government set their wages to keep costs down? Will they work as hard as the other government bureaucrats? Should they start familiarizing themselves with filling out paperwork forms in triplicate, instead of focusing primarily on patient care? Since libs enjoy asking me the questions...for this very special new year gift, I'll depart from YA norms, and answer from the questioner position. Here we go... Why complain about something you obviously know absolutely nothing about? I do work in the field, and I currently contract with government funded insurance (Medi-Cal). I may know something about it. You obviously know very little about the current system. Paperwork? I do paperwork for private and public insurance and contracts. Bureaucracy? And why not ask doctors and nurses instead of us 'libs' you love to hate? I know the answer, because I do talk with them. The question was to spur libs past "I want I want" thinking. Is it because you'd rather fill this space with rants than find out answers? There is no rant, just several clear questions. Learn the difference. Have you ever been anywhere other than the USA? I spent 3 years in Europe, and have traveled abroad to Asian countries on 5 occasions. People in the USA pay more and get less than anywhere in the industrialized world. Check the Health Care CEO salaries below. 29 million dollars will buy a lot of antibiotics. You think you aren't paying for that I'm paying for that if I buy the product that CEO is responsible for selling. Okay, back to normal...you spend 5 points to ask questions. Yes...we have that high infant mortality rate. We also try to save premature births that other countries wouldn't even bother with...and that counts against the stats. In this world, there are lies, damn lies, and statistics.

Health Care Professionals Only: concern about code IV compatibility and cardiogenic shock question? the patient is likely on some IV fluids infusing when code blue is called. Is it wise/good practice to unhook everything such as TPN, other IV meds infusing~~~before the code team arrives? Is there a protocolfor compatibility of IV meds pushed specifially for Code Blue situations? Or does it stand that during an emergency, we don't alcohol swipe port, take concern with compatibility, etc? If you can clarify this... Also, if the patient had seized, does this qualify as cardiogenic shock.. When should the pt be put in Trendelenburg position to help shunt blood to heart? Before the code team arrives? Is this even done at all if you need to do rescusitation? Thanks Lorenzo for addressing my questions/concerns. I do realize seizures do not exactly = cardiogenic shock, but I was interesting in knowing if seizures can lead to cardiogenic shock, in which there definitely is pump failure... I appreciate the reply,,,

Three of them have been sick in the last few days and one that went to the hospital and was told he had the flu.
