Pharmacists? What college classes do I need to become a pharmacists?
What is the pharmacists role in dealing with addictive drugs or drugs that might be abused or misprescribed? I'm writing a paper and I need to know how pharmacists would treat a situation where a patient may be addicted to drugs. Moreover, I'd like to know the protocol. What would happen in a situation where the doctor prescribed the wrong medication to a patient? How would the pharmacist deal with it? What are the safety protocols? How do they make sure patients with psychological disorders take their medicine? Please be elaborate. If any pharmacists choose to respond, some personal situations would help.
What is the lifestyle and financial life of pharmacists? I really want to help people, and I figured a good way would be to become a pharmacist. What are the lifestyles of pharmacists? Do they make good money to have a good house in a good area and get a good truck? I also would want to be able to get nice furniture, nice stuff and vacations like every 2 years. I just want to know whether I would be living a nice life as a pharmacist. Thanks.
Can pharmacists test a medicine that is already out to see if it is safe and works? I want to be in the pharmacy field but at the same time I want to know if a pharmacist can study medicines that are already out to see if they are safe. Example: One A Day teen advantage for him or Women's one a day. I am interested in other responsibilities pharmacists have but I have an increasing interest in studying medicine already out.
Why do doctors and pharmacists work separately? Why can't the doctors also supply with the drug directly rather than you going to a pharmacist? In some countries that I have been, doctors are also pharmacists so why can't it work here?
I have heard that there are Pharmacists who refuse to fill emergency contraception and birth control pills? I heard that there are Pharmacists out there who refused to fill prescriptions for emergency contraception and birth control pills, because they don't believe women should have them. Is this true? That seems unethical not to mention against a free market. I seems the best medicine for these Pharmacist is some civil disobedience, perhaps a website to report these offenses so it can be made known who is doing what. A free market can also be the worst weapon to people who have bizarre agendas.
Do you find pharmacists very helpful where you live? I've lived in a few places. On Long Island, they act like they are doing you the favor, and filling even the simplest prescription in less than an hour is a major problem. They refuse to tell you what related drugs your insurer may give you a better deal on. They never talk about possible side effects and interactions. But in upstate New York, I find the pharmacists are quite the opposite. Prescriptions can be done in 10 minutes. They ask you followup questions when you pick up the meds. Seem happy to work with you.
What do Longs pharmacists in Hawaii wear to work? Sorry, don;t mean this to be a dumb question but I was curious what retail pharmacists in Hawaii wear to work. Im from the mainland and here pharmacists wear shirt and tie but I was told pharmacists in Hawaii wear hawaian shirts to work in addition to their white labcoats...is this true?
Should it be legal for pharmacists to refuse to sell contraceptives on religious grounds? I'm a pro-choice, pro-contraception feminist, but believe it or not, I sort of have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I think that contraception should be readily available to anyone who wants it. On the other hand, I also think that if the pharmacists own their own business, they should be allowed to set the policy. If anything, they're probably hurting themselves by refusing to sell contraceptives, since they're missing out on profits they could otherwise have. Should we just go ahead and let them shoot themselves in the foot?
What Classes Should I Take If I Want To Become A Good Pharmacists? Im about to enter college and I was wondering which classes should I sign up for? Like for ex: Biology, Biochem, and Chemistry Being a Pharmacists has been my goal for a long time and it's my dream career so I want to do well in it. Also what subjects should I major in?
How do pharmacists know if a prescription is real? I went to the drug store to fill my prescription yesterday and a man was being arrested inside for trying to fill a fake prescription. I looked at the prescription I was holding and it looked like a normal piece of paper...nothing special. How do pharmacists know?
does anyone in the country cares about the serious shortage of pharmacists in the US? There is a shortage of over 50,000 pharmacist in the US, pharmacies need to close for days because they do not have enough employees, people are waiting in line to receive bad service ( because the pharmacists are working to hard).... On the other hand, the National board of pharmacy (NABP) doesn't case about anything but money. It is not important to them that there are 3000, "Harvard Material", pharmacists that are trying to be licensed. When I call the NABP, they just ignore the problem and repeat the same record. I would like to make it public, the solution exist, at least part of it, but I do not find someone, with influence, that actually cares. Any suggestions?
what is the role of clinical pharmacists in chemotherapy ? i heard that clinical pharmacists who work in hospitals have a role in chemotherapy do they have contact with patients? are they the ones who give the chemotherapy sessions? and if u have extra details i would be glad to hear thanks for your help
What is a Chemist? And what do pharmacists do in the chemist? I went to a chemist today for my wife with the prescription and was told that this particular medicine was not in stock? I was a little dumb founded, I thought that the pharmacists make it there and then. So what do they do, what is the point of years of Uni?
Why are pharmacists such pricks when you have prescriptions for a pill? I had back surgery a couple months ago and have had to be on pain medicine. I've gone to a couple of pharmacies and they're all dildos and act like your doing something wrong for getting your prescription. If you have a legitimate prescription then why do they think they have any reason to stigmatize you. The reality is pharmacists are not incredibly special and generally people who couldn't cut medical school, but they think they have some kind of power, more than a prescribing physician. Anyone else have these issues with pharmacies or am I just overthinking the whole attitude
What happens to a pharmacists license if they are addicted to drugs? What happens if a pharmacist is found to be a drug addict? Would a pharmacy keep that pharmacist on staff if the drug addict pharmacist agreed to treatment? Could you get another job as a pharmacist if you were fired? If a person were a drug addict, wouldn't that be bad to have that person working in the drug field? Wouldn't that be like hiring an alcoholic to be a bartender?
What are the steps of becomin a pharmacists? ok. so i am a senior and i want to go to collage to be a pharmacists, What is a Pharmacists? What do they do in a daily basis? WHere do you start off? *****Best anwser picked. Thank you very much
What's the best retail pharmacy to work in (Pharmacists only)? I was just accepted in pharmacy school and will start in the fall. I just want to know if there is a chain to watch out for, or all they all the same. Also, I am planning on moving to Florida a few years after I graduate, so should I even consider Rite Aid? Pharmacists reply only please. Also, what are the reasons for your selection (salary, work conditions, vacation time) Thanks.
What undergraduate major would a Pharmacists have had? I have a family member who would like to become a pharmacist but she doesn't know what she should major in. I told her MD's usually have an undergraduate degree of biology, chemistry, or biochemistry. Do prospective pharmacists major in the same areas?
How long does it take to become a pharmacists? I would like to go into pharmacy school and I would like to know some details about it. If anyone knows please let me know. How long it takes, is it real hard, is it easy to go to school and have a job at the same time?
What are some good schools in Texas for aspiring pharmacists? I am a ninth-grader from Houston, Tx and i am looking to be a pharmicist. Are there any good schools around here i can go to? And are there any high school classes or other recommendations that i should know of to have a better chance at entering them?
Why does it take pharmacists so long to fill a prescription? It is not like the old days where they had to grind powder to make pills, or mix solutions, to make a prescription. I see them them behind the counter at the grocery store, walking around andtalking, then disappear for a while. Don't they have little printers that print the label, and while that is going on, they can go to the automated dispensor and fill the bottle with a press of a button? Some of the stuff is already prefilled.
How much do pharmacists make a year? Is it hard to become a pharmacist? If you study 4 years under the pre-med route, and have a 3.0 gpa, can you get into a pharmacy school? Is it tough-educational wise- in pharmacy school. Once out of pharmacy school, are you prepared to work as a pharmacist with a title of Doctor of pharmacy? Need help, completed 4 years of pre med education but didn't get into medical school, what other options are there for me now? Pharmacy is what people are telling me, is it true? Thanks!
When pharmacists need some medication for themselves, what do they do? For example, are they allowed to get it from their own place of work, as long as say, a doctor allows the order and a fellow pharmacist fills it? Or do they have to go to an entirely different pharmacy altogether to avoid possible drug stealing claims or something to that effect?
What kind of non-traditional job opportunities do Pharmacists have? Hi I am going to be a senior in High School this year and am very interersted in the Pharmacy programs at Ohio Northern University and University of Findlay. The tuiton at both of these schools is mind boggling and I am worried about the student loans I am going to have when I get out of school. What other opportunities do Pharmacists get other than the traditional family pharmacy, can I do research or are there other areas I can get into with this degree. Also I heard that the pharmacy program is one of the hardest that can be taken. Is their any advice you can give me as to how to get through the next six years without becoming completely stressed out and is it really worth it.
Do pharmacists have the legal right to refuse to give me back my original written prescription? In other words....I thought that the prescription was mine....it was written in my name and if I take it to a pharmacy they should be the one with a copy of it and not me in my opinion. What is the law on this? On a narcotic, it would make sense for them to keep the original. But, that is just the point. Perhaps I want to change pharmacies. Especially if I want to go somewhere else for the next refill.
Pharmacists? After high school how do you become a pharmacists?
pharmacists? can someone summarize pharmacists' job? + how much do they get paid on average? + what's their education like? thanks
Pharmacists...? Anyone a pharmacist?...Do you like your job?...What made you become a pharmacist?... I am trying to choose a career that will be right for me, and I thought about pharmacy...I never met a pharmacist before, so if you are a pharmacist or a student studying in this field, I would greatly appreciate your help. What college did your friend go to?...(I think I might be going to the same one)
pharmacists? a pharmacist uses 5 separate weights: 1 g 2g 4g 8g and 16g If the pharmacist can combine these weights to create new weights how many different weights are possible??
Pharmacists? Yeah.. I'm only in 7th grade but I'm wondering how long it takes to become a pharmacist not including the first two years. ? what are pharmacist going to study in school? I have a lot of questions in my mind and I need someody that can help me with it.
Pharmacists? Is this job boring? How long is college? Is college tough? How is the salary & what is the average salary for someone who just graduated? Is it easy to find a pharmacist job in a hospital?
Pharmacists? What are the pros and cons of being a pharmacist?? What do you like about your job, is it a good pay?
Pharmacists? Is this job boring? How long is college? Is college tough? How is the salary & what is the average salary for someone who just graduated? Is it easy to find a pharmacist job in a hospital?
Pharmacists?? How much biology and chemistry do you use in your daily routine as a pharmacist? I know that you need a lot while you're in pharmacy school, but how much do you really need after you graduate?
Pharmacists? Hello, I was thinking about becoming a pharmacist and I was wondering how other people like it as a career? How are the hours? What kind of courses do you need in college? Thanks
Pharmacists? Anyone a pharmacist? I am talking about the pople who pull a relaxing 8 hour shift at a grocery store or CVS and then go home. Not the people who spend countless hours researching medicines and blah blah. How much money do you make and how did you become a pharmacist?
Pharmacists? Is being a pharmacist at a grocery store stressful? If so how, all they do is talk to patients and fill prescription bottles?
Pharmacists? I want to be a pharmacist but I want to ask how many years will it take after I graduate highschool? I've asked and looked online but I kept getting different answers!! Somebody please help me! this is getting too confusing.
pharmacists!!!? i graduate in 2009 with a Pharm D degree....is a residency required to work at an ambulatory care clinic?
pharmacists!!? how is the job? how many years of school do you need? do you enjoy it? any regrets?
Pharmacists? I'm interested in pharmaceuticals, and I was wondering what colleges/universities have good programs. Also, how much schooling is required.
Pharmacists? (Job pay)? (Work setting)? ( Is it a rewarding job) ? ( Flexible hours)? (Is there an increasing need for them)? ( Are they considered highly educated)? You can offer short answers as long as you know what you're talking about. I live in Texas just in case you were wondering.
Pharmacists? I am a highschool senior considering pharmacy. I am smart and a lot of people think I would be good at it. I took 4 years of Latin in high school, and I like Chemistry. I know they make on average like $91,998 a year, which will definitely pay back my college loans, and it sounds really good considering my family only makes like 1/5 of that. I am just concerned about the hours (they're long right?). If I have a family in the future I wouldn't want crazy hours, so would I be able to work part time? (assuming I marry a smart guy that makes a good amount). I wouldn't want to work all of the time if I have kids (but I'd probably want to work more when they go to school). LOL I know I sound crazy bcuz it sounds like I am planning too far ahead. Also, what will I need to do in college for my first year, and the years that follow. Should I say on collgeapps that I'm interested in Pre-Pharm major even though it is not definite? What is required of a pharmacy student (tests, etc.) THNX When you want to do Pharmacy, are you automatically under a pharmacy program for the first year of college or does it start like the second year? My sister said you don't really have to choose a major until the second year. Do you apply to be in the Pharmacy program or do the classes you take determine that? Please explain. Or do you apply for the program after 4 years. Ranked #9 for Best Jobs in America by Money Magazine http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/bestjobs/top50/index.html
Pharmacists? Is Pharmacy School really hard to get into? Easier than Medical School?
Pharmacists and Pharmacy School? Do people view Pharmacists as glorified pill pushers? I'm Pre-Med, but Pharmacy School is my last back up plan, but I don't want to be a Pharmacist if this is what people think of Pharmacists cause then in the future they might lower the pay and the 4 years undergrad and 4 years pharmacy school was just a waste. I overheard some people saying that future plans are to cut Pharmacists out to lower drug costs and this will make Insurance Companies profit more. This seems like a crazy idea, but so was the idea of ordering clothes, cars, and others things online and that seems to have driven the middle man out of business. Hope this doesn't offend anyone. I'm just asking a realistic question in search for a realistic answer.
Should pharmacists be allowed to dictate what medications people receive based on their own religious beliefs? The court finally ruled against this guy: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080325/ap_on_re_us/contraceptive_complaint;_ylt=AjxRtnmNj92zczp1cQo6vhkDW7oF Many women are on birth control to regulate their periods, control heavy bleeding, surpress cysts and fibroids, as treatment for various female cancers, or to treat severe acne. Many pharmacists are now refusing to fill prescriptions for anti-depressants and other psychoreactive medications (lithium). Some pharmacists claim they don't "believe" in "interfering" with the brain or they don't believe in mental illness. If a DOCTOR prescribes birth control pills, or any other medication, because a patient needs them, then a pharmacist shouldn't have the right to deny a patient their meds because they feel that taking a certain medication might be "immoral".
any pharmacists? I'm a senior in high school and this may sound really cheesey but I want to do something that helps people, but I was wondering how much patient interaction there actually is in pharmacy. Also what kind of hours do pharmacists work? I want to have a life outside of work and a family so is being a pharmacist too much of a demanding career to have a life outside of work? I know in retail pharmacy you would see the patients but what about in hospital pharmacy? Is it a satisfying career? If youre a pharmacist do you really feel like you are helping people?
Have any pharmacists worked for Rite Aid or Eckerd Drugs? My wife is going to be leaving her current position as a hospital pharmacist to get back to working a day shift. She interviewed with Eckerd Drugs today and they were VERY motivated to hire her. A HUGE sign on bonus and great benefits. Having said that, in a few months, this Eckerd with be a Rite Aid. I've read some Rite Aid horror stories online, but all were from a customer's point of view. I'd like to hear how a pharmacist views their employment with Rite Aid. I don't want my wife to go into a situation that will cause her undue stress. Sam's Club also has offered her a position, but with no sign on bonus. Also, they would make her wait 1 year before starting in the 401K plan. The schedule, however, would be better for us as a family. Any pharmacists for Sam's/Walmart who have opinions to share would be appreciated as well. We live in the Myrtle Beach, SC area. Target, unfortunately, is fully staffed here. It was the first place we looked! We get our own scripts filled there. We also checked with the supermarkets in the area: Kroger, PigglyWiggly and BiLo. Also fully staffed. Sounds like the big box stores and supermarkets must be doing something right. The only stores begging for pharmacists here are the Rx chains.

Pharmacists in Mexico and their health Care? I want to know what it's like for pharmacists in Mexico. I know they don't get paid like pharmacists in U.S. but i want to know. Also, how is the health care in Mexico? Is it like the U.S.'s care or more like France etc where its free. Thanks. Thanks for your answer but I need to know something else. I'm planning on becoming a pharmacist and if i becaome one and moved to Mexico, how will my lilfe be? will i struggle or live a good life? decent or well off like pharmacists in the US? thanks
Question for pharmacists about pharm school? So I'm in my third quarter of pharmacy school (a year round 3 year program) and just was looking for some feedback from pharmacists about their experience with school and how they actually became competent pharmacists. I'm totally stressed out because I feel like to this point I still haven't learned much and stuff I learned in my 1st and 2nd quarter I'm already forgetting, or have forgotten. The information comes so fast and furious it seems impossible to retain it, and I'm freaking out that I'm going to suck as a pharmacist. I've volunteered in a hospital pharmacy but haven't worked. I'm going to start next quarter though so that by the time I graduate I have 2 years under my belt. Through that work experience and rotations will I be ready? What do you suggest? Am I getting worked up about nothing? I just feel like everyone else seems to know so much already and I'm like, uhhhh.... I don't know.
FOR PHARMACISTS/ Related Fields!!? How did you decide to become a pharmacist? What made you come to this conclusion? Was it an event or a teacher or something? Also, are there other jobs for pharmacists besides working in retail? I'm interested.. but I dont want to just dispense the medicine. I want to be more active and feel like I REALLY made a difference! Please help! I'm a senior going to college next year, and I really want to make sure that pharmacy is something I really want to do before I make the committment to go to a school with a pharmacy program! THANKS!!!
Should pharmacists be allowed to refuse filling prescriptions for reasons of conscience? If a patient has gone to a doctor and received a prescription for medication, should a pharmacist be permitted to say "I'm not going to do it" and deny the patient medication? I say no...fill the order or get another job. If I'm an attorney and I get one of these pharmacists as a client, I'd be in for it if I said "my conscience prevents me from representing you." What do y'all think?
Calling all pharmacists!!!? I am 15 and want to be a pharmacist when i leave school. I was wondering if there are any pharmacists out there who can tell me whether this is a good path to take and whether you enjoy your job. Is it hard work? Boring? I would also be interested in what marks you need to get in your final exams and what you do in uni. Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou!
Becoming a Pharmacists question? I would like to know exactly how many years of college (including general education) It takes to be a Pharmacist at walgreens or Rite Aid or Kiaser. I dont want to invent new medication i just want to be a pharmasits and have seen so many diff answers on yahoo answers. I live in California if that helps. Would prefer someone who has recently graduated as a pharmacists or someone who knows for certain. Also I have not been know as the smartist guy around so poeple dont really think i can do it, But in school I didn't do well because i never applied myself, because I didn't care. Now i do and I think i can do it even though Im no genius. Tell me what you think and once again how many years of schooling it will take? Thank you for taking the time to read my long question.
What information sources do pharmacists most use? I am a graduate student in library science researching the information seeking behavior of pharmacists. I would like to get a sense of what information sources are most used among pharmacists of all kinds: hospital and community pharmacists. Thanks!
Information about pharmacists? I am intrested in becoming a pharmacist. I was wondering how the competition is for getting into a school of pharmacy, what you need to be considered, but most of all i was wondering how much pharmacists get PAID? Preferable in Canada
Salaries of Pharmacists and increase?? I know post-graduates receive close to $100 thous, but according to monster.com, the top paid pharmacists- with 10+ yrs of experience basically get paid the same (maybe $110~120?), what's the increase of salaries among pharmacists. Do you get paid about the same or a tiny increase no matter how many years you work? Even lik 30 or more years? Also, salaries of incoming pharmacists are increasing quite alot each year. How do exisiting pharmacists react to that? Do you get enough increase each year?
What are pharmacists? Is pharmacist a very broad term for anyone who works in the field of pharmacy and pharmaceuticals? When someone says he is a pharmacist, I think of the guy behind the counter of my local supermarket's pharmacy section. But then I see all the requirements one needs to become a pharmacists which are university degrees and graduate degrees that takes years to complete. But I think the behind-the-counter-pharmacists get their education from a community college of sorts.
Pharmacists who stutters ...? I classify myself as a moderate stutter and tend to trip up on certain words (ie. words that begin with the letter s) and have a hard time communicating clearly. I am currently debating if I should apply to pharmacy school. I have researched this career and believe that I am capable of handling all the stress and workload in science and math courses. However, I also realize that becoming a pharmacists means being an effective communicator, which is why public speaking is one of the pre-pharmacy courses. I also am aware that in pharmacy schools, many presentations are part of the class. Is anyone in the same position as me or has went through this before? I really need some guidance and advice to eliminate this fear.
PHARMACISTS or Pre-Pharm Students, I really need ur help!!!? I'm considering Pharm as my major very seriously. While understanding that pharm is a great job to have both financially and emotionally, but the problem is I DO NOT like chemistry. I'm pretty good at math, maybe biology, but things like hexadiotride nitrocarbondioxide make me wanna puke (maybe misspelled). Did you guys/girls really had a inclination towards chemistry? or did you just have to get it over with so that you could become pharmacists? Would I be able to be one, although I'm not that interested in Chemistry?
Pharmacists, hw do you like your job? I want to be a really good involved mom, but also a career woman. Is it possible to have the two? I know I have the skills and passion for both. For you pharmacists, what do you think>
Pharmacists only!? Ok, hopefully I've weeded out all the non-Pharmacists... What major will best get you into a Pharmacy grad school? A lot of college catalogs say that biotechnology, biology, applied science and technology, OR chemistry will do because most people that actually go to Pre-Pharm schools don't get in to graduate schools....go figure. Oh yeah, if you guys have any good sites about this profession, don't hesitate to list them. Thanks, I appreciate it. Thanks for the advice, The Advisor. I appreciate it.
Pharmacists suing over having to dispense morning after pill? I just read this article, and am shocked. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070727/ap_on_he_me/refusing_prescriptions I would like to believe that ANY professional would not let their personal beliefs get in the way of their work. It is my belief that they can decide for themselves whether or not to use this pill, and to do their jobs properly at work. Whether or not you think abortion is right or wrong, are these pharmacists failing to uphold their duty of care to their patients/customers? I know abortion is a touchy subject, so please, everyone be kind. thanks Gosh, I was hoping to hear some opposing views to see the thought behind it... thanks again for the answers
