nurses........? Is there any other nurses out there that are sick to death of some of these crazy patient families. Im loving our strick visiting hrs. Amazing the people out there with no medical degree who think they know everything. Do they realize what idiots they are?
What nurses are there that take care of newborns and their mothers? I want to be a registered nurse. I am going to go to college for 2 years for an associate degree in nursing. I would really love to work with the newborns and mothers. I do not know what hours I would have to work, and what kind of nurse would I be? Do registered nurses work in different fields? I know I want to work with people, take care of people, and learn about health. I am just confused about some aspects of nursing and what I want to do in nursing! Help me out as much as you can! Thank you!
Should nursing schools lower their standards due to the shortage of nurses? I've heard of the bill, Nurse Education Expansion, and Development Act (still underway) that allows "Public Health Service Act to authorize capitation grants to increase the number of nursing faculty and students, and for other purposes." Do you think this bill should be enforced? Should nursing schools lower their standards to beat the shortage of nurses we're experiencing? Or do you think there is an alternative, say, like increasing the salary of nursing professors so we won't be short of them? How do we defeat the nursing shortage?! You think the bill, if it becomes law, will do any good?
What are the rules for nurses having tattoos? Does anybody know what the rules/regualtions are for Ontario nurses against tattoos. I have a small tattoo on the back of my neck. I have long hair so its only noticible when I have my hair up, but aren't nurses required to wear their hair up at all times?
How much money do Registered Nurses (RNs) usually start out making after graduating from school? Hi all! I have a question for you. How much money do Registered Nurses (RNs) usually start out making after graduating from school with their RN Associate's degree? I'd like to be a travelling nurse myself eventually. Do you think RNs start out making at least $60k their first year in a normal workweek without any overtime? Also, can RNs work for the US federal government too? Thanks!
What is the best brand of shoes for Nurses and others who work long shifts standing up? I'm not a nurse, but I work long shifts which are ruining my feet! I heard that nurses' shoes have good cushioning, so I'm looking for recommendations for the next pair I will purchase. What brands and models do you like, and why? I find that sport shoes like Nike are not cushioned enough any more, even with gel inserts, probably due to my many hours of walking on hard floors!
What is your opinoin of registered nurses? I am a nurse and have been employed for awhile in a big hospital. I am always amazed at the things people come up with. The pts and their families are sometimes so hateful. What do you think a nurses job entails?
What rank do nurses hold in the British armed forces? I understand there used to be (maybe still is) awful discrimination where female nurses were ranked as officers, while their equally qualified male counterparts had to be "other ranks". That would presumably be illegal today? The Fat Controller: that's what I mean. How can that differentiation be justified?
What kind of nurses are the ones who deliver babies? What kind of field do they specialize in, pediatrics? I know that the doctor is a OB/GYN. But what are the nurses called? Or rather, what field do they specialize in? And how many years do you have to go to school to become one?
What are your opinions on doctors and nurses? Who kill and think they have the rihjt to play god? Colin Norrins, a 32 year old nurse has been found guilty of murdering 4 elderly patients and the attempted murder of 1 other patient with lethal doses of insulin. What do you all think. BTW I'm not saying that all doctors and nurses are killers.

I would like to know when the New Grad Program usually start.. I heard they have it twice a year like Kaiser Permanente. But I would like to know when exactly.. And please.. what hospitals offer a great New Grad program for nurses? Thanx!
What kind of perks do nurses look for when searching for a job? I am writing a paper for school and included in the topics are my recruitment strategies, incentives, benefits, etc., to gain the best nurses for my organization. Please let me know, as a nurse, what kind of things you look for when searching for a job. On the flip side, as a patient, what kind of nurse would you want to have? Are there any qualities that stand out for you? Thank you for answering these questions!!!!!

What do all the different colours of scrubs represent for nurses? Ok... so I was watching this advertisment for nurses on tv and one had a brown scrub, another had a purple one, and the other had a green one. I know the green is for surgical procedures, but what do all the other colours stand for? Do you know all the colours of scrubs? 10 POINTS FOR WHO DOES!
How and when do you tell the nurses your birth plan? I am in Canada and want my baby in the room with me.. not in the nursery... which they did with my last baby, so I hope they do in this hopsiptal. but so many nurses want THEIR routine followed and I was disapointed last time with my first days with my daughter... so i am making a birthing plan. I will go through labour alone, so I will probably just go myself to the hospital. How and when do I tell them 'no bottles... I want to give her the first and all baths.. I want to chnage the first diaper etc'... How do you tell them and how do you handle nurses that think they know best adn are pushy?>
Nurses! What nurse charting system does your hospital use and what do you think about it? The hospital where I work uses E-Chart by Citrix and I think it's crappy. It gets really slow sometimes and the info doesn't transfer throughout the whole hospital. For instance, if your typing in an order, you have to enter the allergies every single time. Pharmacy can't see our patients allergies, diets, etc. You type in things and have to click "initiate charting" and then "ok" to get it to save. It just seems really archaic and repetitive. It's weird and there are way better systems out there, like McKesson. We are a pretty large hospital system, I dont know why we have such a crappy charting program. No one really complains about it, I guess most nurses are used to it. I'm new here and I think it sucks. PS - I love my job and I make plenty of money. I'm not an unhappy employee. I would like to hear what other NURSES think about their charting system, not what kind of employee Joe Schmoe thinks I am. So if there are any NURSES or other healthcare employees that use a charting system with their job, I would love to hear what you think! Thanks :)
How much do nurses really make starting out? Some ppl are saying 100k other are saying they are way underpaid. does anyone know how much nurses really make. a friend of my said she was starting out with $63,000 in atlanta ( which seems a little high to me) does anyone know the real salary nurses make when they are just starting out?
What is a good gift to send to a nurse or nurses who have provided exceptional care? My daughter was just released from the hospital after five days because of rotavirus. We had wonderful nurses - two in particular, but four that provided excellent care and really made us feel better about our stay. I'd like to send some sort of appreciation gift, but don't know what. Should I send individual gifts to just the two main nurses? Or something for the group as a whole? Ideas appreciated!
what do foreign nurses need to accomplish to get licensed to practice in California? i am a fresh graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines and soon to be married in the U.S. after the fiancee visa is approved hopefully early next year. i am still to take the Local Nurses' Licensure Exam this December before going to the States with my fiance, what exams and requirements do i need to accomplish to get licensed to practice in California if i passed our local board exams here? thank you.
In your health experience would you say Nurses are typically better at their jobs than the doctor? I always get better diagnosises, the Nurses guess correctly before the test come in. I had to push the doctor due screen for Lyme's but the nurse had diagnosed it months earlier just based on the symptoms. In the meantime I had a series of X-rays and scans and had my wisdom teeth removed because of Lock Jaw. I also think they have better bedside manner, and seem to have a better handle on multiple traumas and emergencies.
What is your opinion on doctors and nurses? Give your opinion on doctors: Intelligence, personlity traits, etc. What is your opinion on nurses (and I mean nurses with a four year degree--not an LPN or nurse's aide or anything? same thing: intelligence, personality traits, etc. I'm asking for a paper for school.
What all do Labor and Delivery Nurses do? For school I have to do a report on a career. I was wondering what all the Labor and Delivery nurses do. Sonograms? Work in the nursery area after birth? What is the average hourly fee? Lots of information would be greatly appreciated.
Do you enjoy being nude in front of doctors and nurses? I know it's all business for them, but I have always enjoyed being nude in front of female doctors and nurses during exams. Do any of you other guys and girls feel that way about being examined by docs / nurses of the opposite sex? Just curious.

Foriegn Nurses? Do you believe the nurses trained in other countries are trained like the schools train nurses in the U.S.? Do you think we could expand our nursing schools, and create more nursing schools to supply nurses and take people in the U.S. off unemployment? I have experienced problems with many Filipino nurses in communication problems and shift to shift reports. Most of them also seem interested in getting to the U.S. to find a husband, even if the guy they find is already married. I personally believe that nursing has taken a downhill course since we started importing our nurses. Maybe we should concider requiring the foriegn nurses to spend a year in a transition school in the U.S. before they start working. The foriegn nurses that have gone through their nursing schools in the U.S. don't have the problem that foriegn trained nurses have.
Nurses in United U.K? The Home Office in the United Kingdom have just brought in a new rule that nursing is no longer an important occupation and as so it will not be a reserved occupation for getting to U.K. Now there are many other countries like America and Spain that will accept these nurses and treat them right. What I don't like is that Nurses that have settled in U.K but have not been here long enough to become citizens are not going to renew their work permits. These nurses are worried what the future holds and think they will lose their jobs and be sent back to their own country. The nursing unions are going to fight the government over these new rules, this is their only chance. Do you believe these nurses have been betrayed by Britain?. What should be done. I am not a nurse but I will be on the picket lines when and if the Government try to inforce this rule. The United Kingdom will have a national nursing strike if this law is enforced and as nursing strikes are illegal these become crimi
nurses please help this student? I am a BSN student and I am doing a group project about travel nursing. 1. What are the pros of taking a travel nurse assignment? 2. What are the cons of taking a travel nurse assignment? 3. How do I get licensed for a travel assignment in different states to practice? 4. What specialty is in the highest demand? 5. Will I have any opportunity to learn any new skills? 6. Are newly licensed nurses allowed to take travel assignments? 7. If you were a travel nurse what incentives would you be looking for? 8. Can I get an overseas assignment if I have not taken the NCLEX? 9. What length of time would you consider reasonable for a travel nurse assignment? 10. How do you think a travel nurse assignment affects families? Hey thanks Yahoo police, this belongs were I want to post it. I want travel nurses to answer these questions. I will report there reply. funny or not nurses joke? Three nurses died and went to Heaven. They were met at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter, who questioned them. "What did you used to do back on Earth?" he asked the first nurse. "Why do you think you should be allowed into Heaven?" She told him, "I was a nurse at an inner city hospital. I worked to bring healing and peace to many sufferers, especially poor children." "Very noble. You may enter." And he ushered her through the gates. He asked the same questions to the next nurse. "I was a missionary nurse in the Amazon. For many years I worked with a small group of doctors and nurses to help people in numerous tribes, healing them and telling them of God's love." The second nurse replied. "Excellent!" said St. Peter. And he ushered her through the gates as well. Finally he posed his questions to the third nurse. She hesitated, then explained, "I was just a nurse at an HMO." St. Peter considered her answer for a moment, then told her, "Well, you can enter, too." "Wow!" the nurse exclaimed in relief. "I almost thought you weren't going to let me in." "Oh, you can certainly come in," St. Peter told her, "but you can only stay for three days."
Nurses Do you think this is scary? This actually happened in a london hospital in the 1920s. Two nurses went on duty one night, and during the course of the night, they could hears screams and then a crash coming from the lift (the lift was one of those you had to draw a gate across then the door). They reported it to the night sister and she said dont be silly I cant hear anything, neither could any of the other staff. Only these two nurses could hear it. The screams and bangs continued so the two nurses, called the engineer, who could find nothing wrong with the lift. The night shift ended and the two nurses, got into the lift and THEN the other staff heard the screams and the bang, so what the two nurses had heard was actually themselves. before the lift crashed with them in it. I thought this was really scary, it actually appeared in an issue of the nursing times a few years ago, my husband saw it but didnot keep it if anyone knows what issue it was let me know p.s sorry all none nurses welcome too!!!
Do Nurses Have To Work During Most Shifts? I'm considering a degree in nursing. I have 4 questions: 1) Do nurses have to work variable shifts (such as night shifts from 12am to 7am, for example) or could they choose what shifts they want? If yes, would obtaining an A.S. in Nursing (and RN license) as opposed to a LPN license increase the choices I have when choosing the work shifts? 2) Do nurses ever have to bring work home? I don't think they do, but I just want to be sure. 3) Do nurses have to work overtime (more than 8 hours a day) , especially as a new nurse, or is it optional? 4) Are health care benefits provided for full-time as well as part-time nurses? Thanks.

Male Nurses? I am getting ready to finish my degree in healthcare administration, but I feel motivated to go back and get a nursing degree. I have felt a new passion for nursing. The only problem I feel is that I am a guy. I am fine with being a male nurse, but I was just wondering what the perception is in hospitals of male nurses? I would love to hear from male nurses or even female nurses that work with male nurses. I just need some re-assuring, really.
NURSES PLEASE help narc count question? I worked last friday (i'm agency) and when i was leaving i had 2 carts, each w narcs. I counted off w each nurse and hey agreed w count signed and took keys. I got called into the office yesterday, and the nurse who came after me had a missing narc. She tried to pin it on me, saying that i was anxious to leave work early and that i grabbed the med cards and shoved the book in her hand (untrue....I always ask the oncoming nurses would they prefer the book or the cards) I was unsure about the policy on counting and thought it really didnt matter because both nurses should look at both the sheets and the cards to verify the count. Well, now they are trying to say my count is invalid because it wasn't counted correctly, I should have done the sheets because I was going off. Is this true? I really don't see how this is even possible that they are trying to pin this on me. The oncoming nurse counted w me and signed the book. Also, isn't it slanderous for the nurse to imply that I took it?

OK NOW SOME FOR ANY NURSES OUT THERE ARE THESE FNNY OR TRUE Let me know? You Know that You Are a Nurse When... You know you are a nurse when discussing dismemberment over a gourmet meal seems perfectly normal. You know you are a nurse when you compliment a complete stranger on his veins. You know you are a nurse when you find yourself betting on someone's alcohol level. You know you are a nurse when you know that K-Y jelly is optional. How do you save a doctor from drowning? Take your foot off his head. How many nurses does it take to screw in a light bulb? None - They just have a nursing assistant do it. What 's the difference between a nurse and a nun? A nun only serves one God. A nurse dies and goes to heaven. She is met at the Pearly Gates by St. Peter who asks her questions about her life. Over St. Peter's shoulder the nurse spots a man in a white coat sitting on a cloud with a stethoscope around his neck. "Oh brother!", she cries. "Is that a doctor?" St Peter glances over his shoulder and says, "No, that's God. He just thinks he's a doctor."
registered nurses??????? here in the US,i see that most employers want to employ nurses(RN nurses) for btn 10-15 hours a day working in the hospital or whereever they find themselves. My question is,do RNs or nurses in general get the due overtime payment after 8 hours of working? That is to say that if am employed as an RN nurse in a hospital and i was employed to do 12 hrs a day, would they pay me the 4 hours overtime differently(X 1 and half of hourly wage) or they are going to pay me the usual hourly wage though i worked overtime(eg.NY state)?. As a fresh graduate with ADN and have pased the RN exams licensure, how much should i expect to be paid if am employed?(NYC area).which field in nursing is the most lucrative?Homecare, intensive care etc?Which department?Should i have to choose a particular field of practice after completing my ADN in college? If yes how many months/years will that also take? Government and private hospitals, which of this pay nurses the highest?

nursing school? nurses answers only please? i am going to go to nursing school. my mother and her sister (my aunt of course) are nurses, my grandmother was a nurse, and now the interest has appeared to me. i was basically raised in a hospital and understand a lot of the jargon. now what i want to know is, what is it that i should expect in nursing school?
Nurses- What options are available? This is a more detailed question. I see myself working with children as a nurse and eventually a nurse practitioner. I am not clear about the options available. Do all nurses have to work in a hospital? Also, do they all have to work crazy hours? Do any 8am-5pm hours exist? I want to have a family one day and family will be my first priority so basically, is nursing "family-friendly" ? I really do see myself as a nurse but I dont see myself running around, helping the doc with a wounded patient. I want to work with kids in general and I dont have the stomache for having to witness someone dying. I know I sound naive and clueless but thats what the "question-answer system" is for right? Please advise- is it really that stressful ! :)
Any nurses? please answer..!? sooo i think i might like to become a nurse when it comes time for me to decide a career. Are male nurses becoming more respected in American society? Should their be a new name for "male nurse"? I'm a male thinking of getting into the nursing profession and was wondering what the attitudes are by co-workers and patients about male nurses. My experience I find male nurses to be a lot more stable, less emotional and professional. Also should a new job title be created for a nurse who is a male?, since I realized that the word "nurse" seems to be thought of as totally female. It's the same thing that took place when females entered in "male" professions in the 70 and 80's Not the offend anyone, but what about being an African-American male nurse? It's like I'd be a double minority. Few males nurses and even fewer are of african origin, with the public portrayal of a nurse in America being a caucasion female in her 30's. This is not a grammer class. I just type really fast sometimes so sorry for mispellings. Nursing is not a place to "hook up with chicks". I've been an EMT for 4 years and trust me if you get into the medical profession without understanding what its about, you'd be making a big mistake. I'm happily married by the way.
Opinions of Nurses and Doctors? Just yesterday, I was talking with a friend who is currently a nursing major and I said something dumb that has gotten me really thinking. We were talking about what we want to do in the future, and I was thinking about becoming a doctor. I ended up saying if I couldn't get into medical school, maybe I should also major in Nursing because helping people in the hospital is something I would find fulfilling in life and if I couldn't make it as a doctor, why not try being a nurse? But my friend took it in a different sense making me seem like I was saying that doctors are better then nurses. The more I think about it, I don't want to believe in what I said but I think that it is partially true. I am no nurse, neither am I doctor so I know I shouldn't form my own opinions about thinking who is better but could you guys give me some of your thoughts and opinions between doctors and a nurses? Thanks
Calling all nurses! Inspiration? I'm looking for nurses, more specifically nurses in the Navy - but any will do for now. I am writing my college research paper on nursing in the military/Navy. I was really interested and still am - although I am suffering from a bad case of writers block... I plan on getting my BA in nursing anf joining the Navy as an Officer, so this is going to be an awesome paper - I just need to get it going! SO any nurses out there? Tell me something I don't know. I want to hear your story. What keeps you going when you want to give up, when your back aches, and you have a family at home? What is you inspiration? Thanks for the help - I need some inspiration for these nurses!
Question for Registered Nurses!? I am hoping to start nursing school soon.I've been reading blogs on the internet from actual nurses and how unbelievably hectic their days are, so busy they don't even have time to go pee or eat!I take it these are hospital nurses, and I know if I worked at other facilities, like a nursing home, it wouldn't be as hectic, but the pay would be lousy. is there any truth to this? And how do you nurses manage your stress? How do you deal with disrespectful doctors? Is that a common thing to deal with? I love working with people but how will I deal with unpleasant supervisors or doctors? I get so afraid when I start to think about those things. Is it true you have to do a lot of insurance and other paperwork for patients? Isn't that why we have receptionists? Is there a less stressful field of nursing? I would love to specialize in Neo-natal nursing! How do I go about doing that? Also, how often are you required to do conversions and math equations when you administer meds? Thanks R.N.'s!!

Why do nurses act like they know everything? This girl I work with is getting her degree in nursing. Whenever I talk to her, she is always telling me stories about people in the hospital. She always has to include their illness and the scientific name for it, what causes it and how to treat it. My cousin and one of my best friends are nurses as well. Whenever myself or one of my friends even coughs, they ask me about symptoms and what it could be. They will even be in a grocery store and go out of their way to talk to people and in the conversation, they always have to bring up " I am a nurse" The conversation could be about butterflies, but in the end they always make it a point to say " I am a nurse" I was watching a tv show of this person who called in to 911 to have an ambulance called b/c her daughter was hurt. She had to bring up to the dispatcher she was a nurse and made a diagnosis over the phone. Is this something they teach you in school- to tell everyone you are a nurse and brag and to make a diagnosis?
sorry now to any nurses out here its a joke? but its gross? 3 nurses go into the morgue, and there's a dead man's body lying there, with an erection. The first nurse sees it, and says "I'm gagging for it", gets atop the man and has her way with it. The second nurse says "aye, so am I, shame to let it go to waste", and she does the same. They turn to the 3rd nurse and ask her if she is having a go. She replies she is having her period, and declines. One of the nurses reply "He's dead anyway, he'll no bother". The last nurse agrees with this, gets on and does her thing too. Just after she finishes, the dead man sits up. The nurses ask him "We thought you were dead!", and the man replies, "After two jump starts and a blood transfusion, you wouldn't be dead either!".
Nurses: question for you regarding social climate and etiquette of floors? I was up in a new floor and worked there the entire day. I was shown the ropes by a nurse who kept sharing her sex life and needed me to "open up" and share mine. Well, actually I am not involved with anyone and don't plan on it anytime in the future, so I told her so. She asked if I were getting married or have children. I said, "No". Usually because I am a new nurse, it is a difficult situation when such private info is shared. I am not used to nurses whispering in each others' ears and having private jokes at others' expense--isolation. What am I to think of all this? Am I overstressed about a usual event that goes on or is it correct that I believe the nurse was unprofessional and inappropriate? I terribly hated the environment on that specialty floor. It felt like a sorority to I did not belong. They made several invitations of parties, outings to each other, checked personal email, etc... Personally, I'd never work there again.
NURSES!!! Please help? I am going into my final/third year of my nursing degree. Need some guidance as to what i would like to do. Much appreciated :)
Nurses, do you like your job? I am a medical assistant and I cant stand my job, I am getting ready to go back to school and I was considering a career in nursing but I am worried that everything I hate about my job is in nursing as well. The patients are rude and I get into it with at least once a week, over the wait time or other things, the doctor treats us like second class citizens, the pay sucks ( I know nurses get paid well however) and there is no place at work to be creative, it seems like the same thing over and over everyday, it gets boring. Not to mention the drama of working with mostly females, I was just curious if you experience these same things as a nurse.
Nurses, is your job stressful? Are you mentally tired? I was going to study for a nurse but then i heard nurses have ALOT of paperwork to do . I dont' want to do that. But what exactly do you nurses do or if you know any nurses. Are you mentally tired at the end of the day

Nurses and their Behaviour? I have had some cause to notice how some nurses are in hospital. Having had a relative in hospital for a long stay I notice how some nurses and very hard and very uncaring to their patients and some downright rude and horrible. Why is it that they can be. Surely hospital requires caring people. Please dont think I m,ean all nurses because I dont, some are absolutely fantastic and caring. Perhaps there is a reaason for it, any nurses out their wish to comment? Much obliged. Just think that they should eliminate rude and uncaring nurses right out of their jobs. Yes we all get narky at times and they are only human, they do indeed work very long hours and it is a profession that not everyone could do, myself including. I respect them so much but cannot think for a second that to be nasty or rude to a patient is any way to behalf and I wish we could stamp them out as soon as they are noticed.
Nurses in American wars? I am doing a history project on women in American history. I would like to know where I can find information regarding the number of nurses (preferably women nurses) active in the military during times of war (Civil War, WWII, etc.). I am planning on comparing the ratio of nurses to soldiers with the casualty rate of each war (if all goes to plan, the more nurses for every soldier, the less casualties). Thanks in advance.
Nurses have there laughs too.....? A big shot attorney had to spend a couple of days in the hospital. He was a royal pain to the nurses because he bossed them around just like he did his staff. None of the hospital staff wanted to have anything to do with him. The head nurse was the only one who could stand up to him. She came into his room and announced, "I have to take your temperature." After complaining for several minutes, he finally settled down, crossed his arms and opened his mouth. "No, I'm sorry, the nurse stated, "but for this reading, I can't use an oral thermometer." This started another round of complaining, but eventually he rolled over and bared his behind. After feeling the nurse insert the thermometer, he heard her announce, " I have to get something. Now you stay JUST LIKE THAT until I get back!" She leaves the door to his room open on her way out! He curses under his breath as he hears people walking past his door, laughing. After a half hour, the man's doctor comes into the room. "What's going on here?" asked the doctor. Angrily, the man answers, "What's the matter, Doc? Haven't you ever seen someone having their temperature taken?" After a pause, the doctor confesses, "Not with a carnation".
Do nurses get paid enough? I'm a male registered nurse and have been working on a medical unit in the hospital for 6 years now. I feel that I don't get paid enough for all the duties that I do. Nursing in general is the core of returning patients to better health and keeping patients alive. Doctors are paid in multiple of what a nurse earns but the time spent with the patient is 1/20 of the time the nurse spends with the patient. Are nurses cheated out of what they should be earning?
