nurses........?
Is there any other nurses out there that are sick to death of some of these crazy patient families. Im loving our strick visiting hrs. Amazing the people out there with no medical degree who think they know everything. Do they realize what idiots they are?

- exactly!!!
- Nurse to nurse, i feel your pain! I work in a facility where we have a 24/7 open door policy! They can and do, yell day and night! They actually don't realize it most of the time. I just remind myself that they probably feel guilty about not being able to care for their family member themselves so they fuss and fuss over them to feel like they are contributing to their family getting the best care. I just tell myself i'm doing my best and try to accommodate the family so that they can feel better about...whatever it is today.....and go home feeling better. So maybe they will learn to trust you and stop yelling...probably not! It's a thankless job most of the time, but we keep moving on for the ones we do help and the lives we save! You are appreciated by some. Try not to get discouraged.
- As a physician,I understand what you say. But sometimes the non-professionals express really interesting ideas on the diseases or medical treatment. Try to avoid preconceptions and you will see the result! Have a good time dear!
- I always keep the family busy by telling how they can help to care for the pt. Get the attention on the pt instead of on staff. After the pt has a cath, I tell them what I am looking for when I check their groin. The family usually watches more diligently than I do. They have told me when pt is having problems and maybe even saved their family member from worse complications.
