What are the types of medical doctors you can be?
I want to be a medical doctor though im iffy about what kind of doctor. Do you know of some uber long ( I figure) list of doctors and explanations of what each does?

- You might get a list from the medical society in your state or if call/write a medical school - ask for the admissions office and I bet they have some material. A neat thing about medicine is that there are specialties and research areas that will appeal to almost any personality or area of interest. Good luck! RJ
- I can list some by specialty: 1. Family practice--the old time "family doctor" 2. Internal medicine 3. OB/with or without GYN surgical subspecialty for deliveries, hysterectomies etc. GYN--female exams 4.Urologist--bladder & urethra & male problems 5. pediatrics kids--and many subspecialties within 6. haematologist--blood cancers and blood diseases 7.hepatology-liver 8.gastroenterologist-the GI tract & endoscopies 9. neurology--neurological diseases 10. rheumatologist--rheumatological diseases such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis etc 11. endocrinologist--diabetes and other endocrine hormonal disease 12. nephrologist--kidney disorder and kidney failure 13. Infectious disease specialist 14. General surgeon--mostly abdominal surgeries 15 Surgical specialists: cardiothoracic, trauma, orthopedic, ENT, neurosurgery, vascular, plastics etc 16 pulmonologist--lung & respiratory diseases 17. cardiologist--heart 18 radiologist all radiological modalities 19. hospitalist--cares for patients admitted to hospital only 20 ER doc 21. gerontologist--elderly problems 22. sports medicine 23. psychiatrist--mental disorders 24.intensivist--usually a pediatric ICU specialist 25 dermatologist--skin Hows this to start?
